I am Uda de Wet, one of only a small number of female Kalah instructors worldwide.
When I was thirteen I tried to escape a grab from behind using this "super cool" self-defense move I learned.
It didn't work - even though the friend I was testing it with was smaller and weaker than I was.
That was the first time I realized that a lot the stuff they teach as "women's self defense" only work in fairytales.
But I don't live in a fairytale. I live in South Africa, the country with the fifth highest crime rate and one of the highest r@pe rates in the world.
So this move I want to teach you is NOT something that only works in fairy tales.
It is well-tested against realistic opposition β something I myself would trust to actually save my life.
I am honored to be able to share this with you, and can't wait to teach you!
